Skills training

All of the orphans are supported to attend primary school and those who pass the government exams at the end of these six years are encouraged to continue into secondary education. A number of those who have completed their six years of secondary education have gone on to university.

For those who don’t obtain places in secondary school we have developed our skills training centre. Over the past years we have started to teach tailoring, carpentry and welding in our centre at Kimisagara and are currently developing plumbing, electricity and hotel management courses.

Once the youngsters have enjoyed two years of practical training in the centre there is a graduation at which those who have studied tailoring are given a treadle sewing machine while those who have studied welding and carpentry receive a set of tools with which they can confidently enter the jobs market.
